Gaming cryptocurrencies
List of leading gaming (GameFi) tokens by market capitalisation
Gaming cryptocurrencies (GameFi) are the tokens of blockchain games and gaming platforms, where players genuinely own their in-game items and can earn by playing (play-to-earn). They include virtual worlds such as The Sandbox and Decentraland, as well as gaming ecosystems like Immutable and Gala. Below you will find a list of leading GameFi tokens by market capitalisation, with the current price and both the 24-hour and 7-day change.
Gaming cryptocurrency ranking
The table ranks gaming (GameFi) tokens by market capitalisation — at the top the big names such as Immutable, Axie Infinity and The Sandbox, further down the smaller and riskier projects. For each one you will find the price and how it has performed over the day, week and year. You can expand the rest of the list below the table.
Don’t invest unless you’re prepared to lose all the money you invest. This is a high-risk investment and you should not expect to be protected if something goes wrong. Understand the risks.

What are gaming cryptocurrencies (GameFi)?
Gaming cryptocurrencies, also referred to as GameFi (game + finance), power games built on the blockchain. The idea behind them is that a player genuinely owns whatever they acquire in the game — characters, items or land take the form of tokens or NFTs and can be freely sold, lent or transferred between players. The play-to-earn model also allows players to earn cryptocurrency rewards for playing.
Tokens in these games usually serve two roles: they act as an in-game currency for purchases and rewards, and at the same time as a governance token that holders use to vote on the project's direction. The sector is heavily tied to the popularity of individual games and to market sentiment, which makes it highly volatile — after the play-to-earn boom of 2021, many tokens fell sharply. The table ranks projects by market capitalisation, so the largest and most liquid names sit at the top.
Before you invest in gaming cryptocurrencies
The value of gaming tokens depends mainly on whether anyone is actually playing the game in question — if interest fades, the token price usually drops sharply. This is a highly risky and speculative segment, and many games from the previous wave are now barely functioning. This page is an informational overview of market data, not investment advice. Only invest as much as you can afford to lose.
The best-known gaming cryptocurrencies
Gaming tokens fall roughly into three groups. In-game currencies and utility tokens are used directly within the game — to buy items, upgrades or entry into competitions. Governance tokens give holders a say in decisions about the further development of the game or platform. And finally gaming NFTs represent specific in-game assets (characters, land, equipment) that a player owns and can trade. Many projects combine several roles at once.
The play-to-earn model saw an enormous boom in 2021, when games such as Axie Infinity showed that playing could genuinely be a source of income. Most of the projects from that period, however, ran into the same problem: the game's economy only worked as long as new players kept arriving. A newer wave (so-called play-and-earn) therefore puts the emphasis mainly on fun and the quality of the game, with earnings being secondary. The following projects currently lead the ranking of gaming cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation.
Immutable (IMX)
A scaling network (Layer 2) on Ethereum specialising in games and gaming NFTs. It lets developers issue in-game items without transaction fees, and it ranks among the largest infrastructure for blockchain games anywhere.
Axie Infinity (AXS)
The game that kicked off the whole play-to-earn phenomenon in 2021. Players collect and battle creatures called Axies (gaming NFTs). The AXS token is used to govern the project and for staking; the game itself cooled off markedly after the boom.
The Sandbox (SAND)
A virtual world where users buy plots of land (LAND) and build their own games and experiences on them. The SAND token is the internal currency of this metaverse, and a number of major brands have joined the project.
Decentraland (MANA)
One of the first blockchain virtual worlds. Users own land and digital items within it and pay using the MANA currency. Alongside games, it is also used for hosting events and exhibitions.
Gala (GALA)
A gaming platform and ecosystem that aims to give players control over gaming assets across multiple games. The GALA token is used for rewards and purchases within the ecosystem.
ApeCoin (APE)
A token linked to the Bored Ape Yacht Club ecosystem and the gaming projects around it (Otherside, for example). It serves both as a governance token and as a currency in the connected games and applications.
Gaming cryptocurrencies are a fascinating intersection of gaming and ownership, but as an investment they are a bet that a particular game will succeed and keep hold of its players. Most projects will not manage this — so approach them with great caution and invest only funds that you can afford to lose.
Frequently asked questions
Which are the best gaming cryptocurrencies?+
Among the largest gaming (GameFi) tokens by market capitalisation are Immutable (IMX), Axie Infinity (AXS), The Sandbox (SAND), Decentraland (MANA), Gala (GALA) and ApeCoin (APE). You will find the full ranking in the table above.
What does play-to-earn mean?+
Play-to-earn is a model in which players earn rewards for their time and activity in a game in the form of cryptocurrency or NFTs, which they can then sell or exchange. Playing can therefore deliver real value — but only for as long as the game and its token remain in demand.
Are gaming cryptocurrencies a good investment?+
They are highly speculative. A token's value stands or falls with the popularity of a particular game, and few projects succeed over the long term. The list is meant for tracking the market, not as a recommendation to buy.
