Revolut's free ChatGPT Go: where's the catch

Revolut is bundling OpenAI's ChatGPT Go with its plans at no extra cost, from three months on Standard up to a year on Metal and Ultra. The catch sits at the end of the free period, when OpenAI starts billing the stored card automatically.

  1. Ultra and Metal carry 12 free months of ChatGPT Go, Premium, Revolut Pro and Revolut Mobile 6, while Standard and Plus get a 3-month invite-only trial running until 29 July 2027.
  2. The trial excludes anyone who has held a ChatGPT subscription in the previous three months and requires a marketing opt-in.
  3. Once the free period ends the subscription converts to a paid one billed by OpenAI — cancellation must come at least 24 hours before the deadline.

On 30 July 2026, Revolut began bundling OpenAI’s ChatGPT Go with its retail plans at no extra charge, and the trial terms expressly list the UK among eligible markets. How long the free period lasts depends on the plan.

What the benefit is worth

ChatGPT Go is OpenAI’s budget tier: higher usage limits, file uploads, image generation and a memory feature, one step below Plus, which the UK App Store lists at £19.99 a month. Go itself costs £6.99 a month there. Against that price list, twelve free months come to £83.88 and six months to £41.94 — a straight multiplication, not a Revolut figure. One caveat: OpenAI’s web checkout, which is what the subscription rolls onto, publishes no static UK price. The company quotes $8 a month in the US and says pricing is localised in some markets.

The fine print

Revolut says the Standard and Plus invitations will go out “in the coming weeks”.

The trial requires being 18 or over, opting in to marketing communications, and having had no ChatGPT subscription at any point in the previous three months.

Activating the benefit means storing a payment card with OpenAI. Revolut’s UK help pages spell this out for Premium holders explicitly: switch off auto-renewal, or pay.

There’s a smaller wrinkle in Revolut’s own documentation. The UK help centre lists the benefit for Premium, Metal and Ultra only, while the six months for Revolut Pro and Revolut Mobile appear solely in the press release.

Our view

Structurally this is as much a distribution deal for OpenAI as a perk for Revolut’s customers, who number over 75 million according to the company. The mechanics — marketing opt-in, a card on file with OpenAI, automatic conversion, exclusion of existing subscribers — point to turning people who have never paid for ChatGPT into subscribers who may forget to cancel.

Anyone eyeing a plan upgrade purely for the perk faces awkward arithmetic: Metal costs £14.99 a month, more than double Go’s £6.99 App Store price.
