DeFi Cryptocurrencies
A ranked list of leading decentralised finance tokens by market cap
DeFi cryptocurrencies are the tokens behind decentralised finance protocols — lending, decentralised exchanges, stablecoins and derivatives — that replace traditional banking services with smart contracts, cutting out the middleman. Below you'll find a ranked list of leading DeFi tokens ordered by market cap, with the current price and both 24-hour and 7-day changes.
DeFi cryptocurrency ranking
The table ranks DeFi tokens by market cap — big names like Uniswap, Aave and Chainlink up top, smaller and riskier protocols further down. For each one you get the price and how it has done over a day, a week and a year. Expand the rest of the list below the table.
Don’t invest unless you’re prepared to lose all the money you invest. This is a high-risk investment and you should not expect to be protected if something goes wrong. Understand the risks.

What are DeFi cryptocurrencies?
DeFi (decentralised finance) cryptocurrencies power protocols that offer financial services without a bank or broker. They cover lending and saving (Aave, Maker), decentralised exchanges (Uniswap, Curve), staking (Lido), derivatives and the tokenisation of real-world assets. Everything runs on smart contracts, typically on Ethereum and other blockchains. The native token usually handles protocol governance, staking or fee sharing.
The sector tends to be volatile and technically demanding — a token's value depends on how much the protocol is used, its trading volume and the security of its smart contracts. Market caps range from billions of dollars (Uniswap, Chainlink, Aave) down to small, risky projects. The table orders protocols by market cap, so the largest and most liquid names sit at the top.
Before you invest in DeFi cryptocurrencies
DeFi tokens are among the riskiest corner of the crypto market — on top of market volatility, there's the danger of smart-contract bugs and protocol hacks. This page is an informational overview of market data, not investment advice. Neither market cap nor past performance predicts where a price will go next — only invest what you can afford to lose.
The most notable DeFi cryptocurrencies
A DeFi token usually plays one or more of three roles. It handles governance — holders vote on how the protocol develops; staking and fee sharing — locking the token earns you a share of the revenue or discounts; and it acts as collateral in loans and stablecoins. A token's value therefore grows as more people actually use the protocol. The projects below currently lead the DeFi field by market cap.
Uniswap (UNI)
The largest decentralised exchange (DEX). It lets you swap tokens straight from your wallet with no middleman, thanks to so-called liquidity pools. The UNI token is used for protocol governance.
Aave (AAVE)
A leading protocol for lending and saving crypto. Deposit assets and earn interest, or borrow against collateral — it's all run by smart contracts, with no bank involved. The AAVE token supports governance and the security of the network.
Chainlink (LINK)
An oracle network that feeds verified real-world data (prices, exchange rates) into smart contracts. It's core infrastructure that most DeFi applications rely on.
Hyperliquid (HYPE)
A fast decentralised exchange built for trading perpetual futures on its own blockchain. One of the fastest-growing DeFi projects of recent times.
Maker / Sky (MKR)
The protocol behind the decentralised stablecoin DAI (now USDS), pegged to the dollar. Users mint the stablecoin against collateral; the MKR token governs the system and its stability.
Lido (LDO)
The largest liquid staking protocol. It lets you stake Ethereum while still holding a liquid token (stETH) that you can go on to use across DeFi. The LDO token is used for governance.
Ondo (ONDO)
A project focused on the tokenisation of real-world assets (RWA) — bringing government bonds and money-market funds onto the blockchain, one of the main trends bridging traditional finance and DeFi.
Decentralised finance is a fascinating sector, but a young and fast-changing one. As with any investment, the same rule applies: do your own research, understand what a protocol actually does, and expect high volatility alongside technical risks.
Frequently asked questions
Which are the best DeFi cryptocurrencies?+
The largest decentralised finance tokens by market cap include Uniswap (UNI), Aave (AAVE), Chainlink (LINK), Hyperliquid (HYPE), Maker/Sky (MKR), Lido (LDO) and Ondo (ONDO). You'll find the full ranking in the list above.
How is the list of DeFi cryptocurrencies ordered?+
Projects are ranked by market cap — from the largest and most liquid tokens down to the smaller ones. Classification into the decentralised finance category follows CoinGecko's categorisation.
Are DeFi cryptocurrencies a good investment?+
There's no guarantee. DeFi tokens offer high growth potential but also above-average risk — both market and technical (contract bugs, hacks). The list is there for tracking the market, not as a recommendation to buy.
